Martino presents art and music lecture series at Athenaeum
Victoria Martino is the rare art historian who is also a performing violinist. The Athenaeum Music Art Library will be exploiting both sides of her expertise in a Tuesday evening lecture series, “Five Centuries of European Art Music: From the Renaissance to the Present Day.”
Of course Martino doesn’t view art and music separately; rather, she seems them as part of a singular vision that expresses itself in different mediums.
She favors a quote by Kandinsky, who is one of her favorite artists:
“Every work of art is the child of its time and, in many cases, the mother of our emotions. It follows that each period of culture produces an art of its own which...

Scandal over GSA junket won’t affect travel spending, experts say
In Washington, another scandal has broken over excessive spending during a business conference. But travel experts predict the effect this time around will be limited.
Four years ago, it was insurance giantAmerican International Group Inc. that was slammed for holding a lavish executive retreat at a Dana Point resort after taking billions of dollars in government bailout money.

LOS ANGELES Hundreds of photos of standardized tests have begun to appear on social-networking sites in California, raising concerns about test security and cheating by students.
