State education officials ripped Mayor Bloombergs reforms of the citys school system Tuesday, calling failed public schools warehouses for thousands of unlucky students.

Merryl Tisch, chancellor of the New York State Board of Regents, blasted the mayors long-standing policy of closing troubled schools and replacing them with new ones at a meeting with the editorial board of the Daily News.

School of Music protest at University of East Anglia

Students have been protesting at the University of East Anglia against the proposed closure of its music school.

More than 200 students demonstrated on Wednesday as the universitys senate held a meeting to discuss the future of music as a degree subject.

A petition of more than 7,000 signatures has so far been collated from people opposing the move.

If plans to close the school go ahead, it could mean the loss of seven full-time staff jobs.

The UEAs governing board is expected to make a final decision on the viability of the School of Music on 28 November.

The Norwich university announced in October it was reviewing its degree subjects and proposed the music...

The American Association of University Women surveyed 1,965 students and found that nearly half of both boys and girls in grades 7 through 12 reported experiencing sexual harassment at school, defined by the researchers as unwelcome sexual behavior and including everything from sexual comments to being physically intimidated in a sexual way. Boys were most troubled by the same kind of harassment found in any survey about bullying: taunts about being gay. School apologises for sex abuse

The head of a west London Catholic school has apologised for its terrible legacy of sex abuse.

Christopher Cleugh, headmaster of St Benedicts school in Ealing, said the school would adopt the recommendations of an inquiry, led by Lord Carlile.

The report, which looked at 21 attacks since 1970, said Ealing Abbey monks must lose their control of the school.

The abbot has accepted that he failed when he allowed a former head facing abuse claims to return in 2007.

Southwest Ohios most financially beleaguered school system saw its record string of eight tax levy defeats since 2008 finally broken by a razor-thin margin for a new operating tax hike, according to unofficial vote tallies Tuesday.
